Just a week after its international debut at the Toronto Film Festival, where it blew away many a critic, the latest film by Indonesian action hero Iko Uwais (star of “The Raid” and its sequel) “Headshot” has won the Palmare’ Award at the L’Étrange Film Festival in Paris.
The L’Étrange Festival is France’s premier fantastic film fest, highlighting amazing genre cinema from around the world. The Palmare’ Award is the festival’s top honor, and for the first time in the festival’s history, the prize was given to two films – “Headshots” and “They Call Me Jeeg Robot”, an Italian superhero film.
“Headshot” was directed by the Mo Brothers (Kimo Stamboel and Timo Tjahjanto, directors of “Macabre” and “Killers”), and features Iko playing a patient, called Ishmael, who wakes up without any memories after suffering a bullet to the head. He is nursed back to health by a young doctor named Ailin, played by Chelsea Islan. Ishmael is forced to fight an army of criminals from his former life in order to save Ailin after she is kidnapped leading to plenty of violence. Sweet, sweet violence.
The film’s IMDB page says it will be released in Indonesia on December 25. We hope that’s true because it’ll make a great present for all of us action fans looking forward to seeing Iko kicking ass on the big screen once again.
