There is a war going on for the hearts and minds of Jakarta’s geek culture enthusiasts. In September, Jakarta Comic Con drew first blood. But now, a new Comic Con is rising. Which one shall reign supreme?
To answer that important question, or just to revel in your love of toys, games, comic books, cosplay, sci-fi, and all other things geeky and wonderful, head to the Jakarta Convention Center this weekend for Indonesia Comic Con, a two-day celebration of pop culture at its finest.
For many Jakartans, the biggest star of ICC will be Kenji Ohba, a Japanese actor best known for his role in the 1982 TV series Space Sheriff Gavan, which was hugely popular in Indonesia back in the day.
For comic book aficionados, David Mack, an acclaimed comic book writer and artist best known for his work on “Kabuki” and “Daredevil” will also be a huge draw.
One of the best reasons to go to any Comic Con is to check out all the attendees who come dressed in elaborate cosplay outfit. Jakarta’s best and most creative cosplayers are sure to come out to compete in ICC’s “Championship of Cosplay.” There will also be some internationally famous cosplayers including Nicole Marie Jean and Luffy showing off their amazing costume creations.
So will it be better than Jakarta Comic Con? Well JCC was organized by some of the same people behind LA’s famed Comic Con, but ICC’s organizers are affiliated with such prestigious events as New York Comic Con, the Chicago Comic & Entertainment Expo, PAX and Star Wars Celebration. So while both have stellar geek credentials, we think ICC might outdo JCC, at least based on some of the rumors we’ve heard at the comic book shop.
At any rate, if you consider yourself a geek, nerd, otaku, sci-fi fanatic, toy collector, comic book superfan, gamer (or if you won’t admit to any of that but are still excited about the new Star Wars movie coming out next month), then you should almost certainly head to ICC this weekend.
