Scene from “The Raid”
Fans of hardcore action flicks “The Raid” and “The Raid 2” won’t have to wait for the next sequel to see action hero Iko Uwais and his co-star Yayan Ruhian kick ass together on the big screen as the two recently joined the production of a new Hollywood movie called “Beyond Skyline.”
Iko and Yayan served as both actors and fight choreographers on the critically-acclaimed Raid films. Together with director Gareth Evans, the two created action sequences and fight scenes that critics have hailed as some of the best in movie history.
The producers of “Beyond Skyline,” a spin-off to 2010 alien invasion film “Skyline,” are having the dynamic duo also do double duty as both actors and fight choreographers on their film.
As quoted in US entertainment industry trade publication Variety, “Beyond Skyline” producer Greg Strause said he chose Iko and Yayan because, “We’re showcasing a new kind of alien combat, so who better to collaborate with than the most innovative fight team in the world?”
According to Variety, Iko will be playing “the leader of an underground resistance that forms after aliens touch down on earth.”
He’ll also be starring alongside actor Frank Grillo (who was most recently in “Captain America: The Winter Soldier”) who plays a father looking for his abducted child.
Filming on “Beyond Skyline” is scheduled to begin in Batam, Indonesia, in early December. We can’t wait to see the trailer, but until then, you should watch this clip of Iko and Yayan’s first furious fight scene against each other from Gareth Evan’s pre-Raid silat showcase “Merantau.”
