We’ve all expected it, but we now have official confirmation that 88rising’s Indonesian stars will indeed star at the upcoming Head in the Clouds festival in Jakarta.

The music label this morning dropped the lineup for the festival, which will be held at Community Park in PIK 2 on Saturday, Dec. 3 and Sunday, Dec. 4.

Four artists on the lineup were Jakarta born and raised before they moved to the US and became global stars with 88rising: singer-songwriter NIKI, who recently revisited her youth in the capital in the hit single High School in Jakarta; rapper Rich Brian, who came to prominence with the viral hit Dat $tick, which was shot in Jakarta; singer-songwriter Stephanie Poetri, who sang the mega hit I Love You 3000; and rapper Warren Hue, who just dropped his album Boy of the Year in July.

Another Indonesian act in the lineup, though they’re not signed to 88rising, is the all-girl rock band/slayer of stereotypes Voice of Baceprot (VoB). The hijab-wearing trio may have risen to prominence partly due to their Islamic fashion identity, but they are also a critically acclaimed outfit, having scored a nomination for best metal song for School Revolution at the Independent Music Awards.

Major 88rising acts confirmed for Head in the Clouds Jakarta include Joji, Jackson Wang, Milli, and Ylona Garcia.

Two-day passes went on sale on Aug. 4 through the event’s official website or official ticketing partner Blibli. Following the lineup announcement, tickets will go back on sale on Sept. 21 at 10am.

Head In The Clouds festival, dubbed the “Asian Coachella,” was supposed to debut in Jakarta in March 2020 at JIExpo Kemayoran, with Rich Brian and NIKI named among the headliners then. The event was canceled due to the pandemic.

This year’s Head in the Clouds in Jakarta will mark the festival’s international debut since its inception in Los Angeles.

Sharing its name with a compilation album featuring 88rising stars, the inaugural Head in the Clouds festival was held in LA in 2018. A second festival followed in 2019, with the Jakarta festival in 2020 supposed to be the third edition. 88rising held another festival in LA in December 2021, with another date in the City of Angels confirmed for August 2022.
