Flashmob of martial artists show off their sweet silat skills at Car Free Day

We’ve all seen plenty of flashmob videos on Youtube so you know how they go. In a crowded area, al of a sudden one person starts dancing, and people in the crowd look at them and start to wonder if they are high or something. Then, some of those people “spontaneously” start joining in until there is a crowd of highly choreographed individuals turning the world, for a few magical moments, into a real-life musical.

Well, this is basically that, except instead of dancers, the flashmob is made up of young martial artists demonstrating their skills at Indonesia’s very own pencak silat. It took place during a recent Car Free Day by the Hotel Indonesia Roundabout.

You might recognize the mysterious man in the black hood who watches over them and joins in at the last minute as Cecep Arif Rahman, who played the super scary assassin from the Raid 2 (and will also be starring in Star Wars Episode VII later this year).

That’s because, like most flashmobs these days, this spontaneous silat demonstration is actually a bit of viral marketing for “3” a new silat-heavy sci-fi film starring Cecep that is currently in theaters. Despite being a marketing ploy it’s still a fun display that hopefully got a few of its audience members interested in learning pencak silat for themselves.
