Disney eyeing Indonesian anime movie, ‘Battle of Surabaya’

Indonesia’s not exactly famous for producing anime, but one movie, ‘Battle of Surabaya’, could soon receive international recognition.

The movie’s director, Aryanto Yuniawan, said Walt Disney Pictures is interested in acquiring the rights to the movie, as reported in Ngonoo

Disney is looking to buy the movie outright from movie’s production studio MSV Pictures. Failing that, Disney could purchase the option to distribute the movie within its network, or have the movie shown on the Disney Channel.

MSV Pictures have not yet decided whether it will take up Disney’s offer.

The movie, in which the main characters are voiced by Reza Rahadian and Maudy Ayunda, tells the story of 13-year-old Musa as he becomes a messenger of secret codes during the November 10, 1945, battle between Indonesian and Dutch forces in Surabaya, East Java.

After a limited release in September 2014, the movie is set for nationwide release in August 20, 2015.
