Instead of her usual pumpkin-shaped carriage, Cinderella decided to celebrate Valentine’s Day by riding the KRL Commuter train going from Jakarta to Bogor last Saturday.
While it might have seemed like a whimsical surprise to some of the commuters on the train, the appearance by Cinderella and her Prince Charming was a carefully planned publicity event for Disney Studio’s upcoming live action version of Cinderella. Trains were prepped with Cinderella advertisements and decorations to make the princess’ appearance feel more appropriate (and on brand).
But just because the event was done in the hopes of getting multiple media outlets (such as ourselves) to raise awareness about the new film, there’s still something special about seeing people receiving a flower from a Disney princess while riding the KRL.
It’s also cool to see Disney devoting the resources to do more creative and engaging advertisements here in Indonesia, which is surely a sign of the importance of our domestic market to the multi-billion dollar studio’s bottom line.
