Tora Sudiro, an actor best known for his role as Indro in the recent ‘Warkop DKI’ remake (one of the most successful Indonesian movies of all time), and his wife, actress Mieke Amalia, were arrested today after the South Jakarta Police carried out a narcotics raid in their home in South Tangerang.
Tora and Mieke were both taken into custody and were subjected to urine tests. According to the police, both tested positive for the consumption of dumolid, a psychoactive drug containing nitrazepam which is usually prescribed to insomniacs.
Dumolid is not illegal in Indonesia, but it does require a prescription. There have been some incidences of the drug being abused in Indonesia in the past.
The police say they also confiscated 30 dumolid pills from Tora and Mieke’s residence. They did not say whether or not they found other forms of drugs during the raid.
Their arrests came as quite a shock as the pair had never fallen afoul of the law before. It’s also quite untimely for Tora, who is starring in the sequel to ‘Warkop DKI’, which is scheduled for release in early September.
