Celebrate Indonesia’s amazing music scene and get an insider’s take on the industry at Archipelago Festival (Oct 14-15)

Jakarta has quite a few major music festivals these days, such as Java Jazz, We The Fest and Djakarta Warehouse Project. But the headliners at these festivals are always international acts, so why isn’t there a major festival that puts Indonesian artists and the local music industry in the spotlight?

That’s the aim of the Archipelago Festival, which is taking place at Soehanna Hall in The Energy Building (SCBD) October 14-15. Put on by local music collectives Sounds From The Corner and Studiorama, AF is dubbed a “Music Conference & Emerging Talent Festival”, geared not only towards music lovers but also people who want to know more about the local music industry through panels, workshops and discussions with experts.

But first and foremost AF is about hearing great music, and as such they’ve got a lineup filled with amazing up-and-coming local acts such as Asam, a progressive pop band from Banyuwangi, electronic music group Fisika Matematika and prog-rock duo Gaung.

While the emphasis is on local artists, there are also going to be some cool international acts playing at AF including UK rap star Afrikan Boy and Malaysian rockers Ramayan.

For those interested in the industry side of things, there will be numerous discussions and workshops on topics ranging from “Fans: Hate Them, Love Them, Monetize Them?” to “Women: Gender Equality Within the Local Scene”, all featuring Indonesian music industry vets.

If you’ve got a passion for Indonesia’s music scene and want to see it grow and evolve, then AF is a good place to see how that can happen and hear why it needs to (while listening to lots of great bands, of course).
