Unmasked Poetry Open Mic “90 BPM Vol.02” (Saturday)

Jakarta’s best poetry open mic event is back this Saturday with their second collaboration with some of the capital’s coolest hip-hop artists for “90BPM – Beats, Poetry Music Vol.2”. Taking place at Mondo By The Rooftop, this event will feature plenty of lyrical goodness with great beats to boot. Door opens at 3:30pm, poetry open mic starts at 4 pm and will run for 2 hours. Entrance fee is Rp 30k which includes a copy of the poetry zine 90BPM.

Beat It – A Tribute to Michael Jackson Presented by the Jakarta Concert Orchestra (Saturday)

The King of Pop will get the classical treatment this Saturday at this special concert marking the close of the Jakarta Concert Orchestra’s 2018 concert series. Music director and conductor Avip Priatna has worked hard to bring Michael Jackson’s greatest hits to live through the combined talent of his orchestra, the Batavia Madrigal Singers, the Resonanz Children’s Choir (TRCC), and some special guest-stars. The show takes place at Teater Besar, Taman Ismail Marzuki, Jakarta at 7.30 pm on Saturday. Tickets start at Rp 100k. For more information and to purchase tickets

Global Migration Film Festival (Starts Saturday)

IOM, the UN Migration Agency, launched The Global Migration Film Festival (GMFF) in 2016 to bring the dramatic, poignant and comic stories of migrants to diverse audiences. This year’s festival features films and documentaries that aim to capture the promise and challenges of migration as well as the unique contributions that migrants make to their new communities.

GMFF starts in Indonesia this Saturday at the @america cultural center in Pacific Place with screenings of Alba and Every Row a Path as well as the Indonesian film Pengantin – The Bride by Noor Huda Ismail. Taking over all of the happening spots in SCBD’s Fairground building — Lucy in the Sky, The Goods Diner, SwillHouse, and The Pallas — Optimal is a celebration of body twerking grooves and hip-hop beats featuring a number of notable international and local artists representing sound collectives including In Effect, Javabass Sound Systems, Soul Menace, De La House Radio and ONAR. Calum Scott – Only Human (Sunday)

British singer and songwriter Calum Scott gained worldwide fame after his breakout performances on Britain’s Got Talent and has had a number of hit singles in recent years including his version of Robyn’s hit “Dancing on My Own” as well as his collaboration with Leona Lewis, “You Are the Reason”. He’ll be performing at Balai Kartini this Sunday at 7:30pm. Tickets start at Rp 750k.
