Throw it away

Forget yesterday

We’ll make the great escape

If you were big on pop punk, pop rock, or emo in the mid to late aughts and have been going to emo night events in the past couple of years, The Great Escape by Boys Like Girls would undoubtedly be in your playlist.

Yesterday, the American pop rock band announced that they will be returning to Jakarta on April 9, giving emo kids a chance to relive the good ol’ days of playing their songs on their iPods (remember those?).

As posted on Instagram by Jakarta concert promoter Soundlive, the show will be held at Kuningan City Ballroom P7. The band is set to perform songs from their self-titled album, which was released in 2006, in its entirety to honor their debut. This will be Boys Like Girls’ second time performing in the capital, as they previously held a concert here in 2010.

Tickets will be on sale starting tomorrow on Loket, priced at IDR650,000 (US$47) before tax.

After Jakarta, the band will continue their Asia tour to Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, Cebu, and Manila.

Hailing from Boston, Boys Like Girls was formed in 2005 by vocalist/guitarist Martin Johnson. Their self-titled debut album spawned several hits that are synonymous with them until today, such as Hero/Heroine, Thunder, Five Minutes to Midnight, as well as The Great Escape. They released their second album Love Drunk in 2009 and their third album Crazy World in 2012.

The band’s lineup currently comprises Johnson, lead guitarist Paul DiGiovanni, bassist Morgan Dorr, and drummer John Keefe, with most of them having been involved in numerous side projects over the years.

Before you forget yesterday and embark on a great escape, let’s go down the memory lane and listen to some of Boys Like Girls’ well-known hits below:
