Pevita Pearce, the 22-year-old actress known for her roles in 5 cm and Tenggelamnya Kapal Van der Wijk is reportedly engaged to Indra Priawan Djokosoetono, the son of the founder of the Blue Bird taxi group.
According to Warta Kota, Indra marked the occasion by giving Pevita a car as an engagement present (as you would expect from a billionaire). Not just an ordinary car or a Blue Bird taxi – though we wouldn’t mind one of those for free – but a brand-spanking new yellow Lamborghini.
Indra apparently posted photos of Pevita and her new yellow Lambo on his inaccessible private Instagram account, but this screenshot has gone viral and serves as proof that the engagement present rumors are true.
You may notice that the photo was posted a month ago, which might suggest that the two have been engaged for quite a while now. The couple is quite well known for being private about their romantic lives.
We’re happy for Indra and Pevita (especially Pevita, because yellow Lamborghini, dayum!) and we hope for the best in their relationship. But we can’t help but feel a little saddened that this story just further highlights the massive financial disparity between the upper class and the lower class in Indonesia.
While billionaires and celebrities can buy sports cars like buying rice (as the Indonesian expression goes), some people have to scrape by in order to make a living. Some cases are just truly horrific, like the family in Kediri who committed suicide because both of the parents were laid off from work.
So maybe, just maybe, a few less flashy toys and a little more charitable donations should be expected from our upper class.
