Indonesian actress Nikita Mirzani is no stranger to legal controversy, but the latest incident involving her former husband may be the most serious yet.
Nikita was apprehended by the police in Mampang, South Jakarta on Thursday, after she failed to meet two police summons for an assault investigation.
Her ex-husband, businessman Dipo Latief, filed a police report against Nikita in late 2018 containing allegations of assault, which involved her throwing an ashtray that hit him in the forehead, as well as embezzlement.
Nikita was subsequently charged with assault under the Criminal Code, which could see her imprisoned for up to two years and eight months.
Nikita was detained for three days over the weekend, but she was placed under city arrest after the South Jakarta district attorney’s office granted a petition for her limited release.
“In the petition, several parties were named as her guarantors. Then humanitarian consideration regarding [her status as a] single parent [played a part], as there are children who still need their mother,” Head of the office’s Intelligence Unit Andi Ardhani said yesterday, as quoted by Kompas.
Andi noted that Nikita is obligated to report to the DA’s office twice a week, and she is prohibited from leaving Jakarta as her case is set to go to court.
Nikita, a 33-year-old mother of three, emerged happily from the DA’s office yesterday and expressed her gratitude to God for helping her going through the ordeal.
“I’m so happy, I gave my enemies only three days to have fun, right? And now, I’m free, so I’ll take a rest for a while. My bones have been hurting since yesterday, since I didn’t sleep on a bed,” Nikita told reporters.
