Get into the holiday spirit with a Christmas Hymn Charity Concert (Saturday afternoon)

If you celebrate Christmas and want to get into the holiday spirit while supporting a good cause, you can consider checking out “Joy to the World”, a Christmas hymn concert being put on by the Amadeus Symphony Orchestra and featuring the GMI Jakarta Pusat Singers as well as other choirs. Open your eyes to “The Girl Who Saved My Life” (Saturday afternoon)

In observance of the #16Days of Activism against Gender-based Violence campaign, The Embassy of Sweden in Jakarta together with UN Women will be screening ‘The Girl Who Saved My Life’, a film by director Hogir Hirori who traveled from Sweden to his homeland of Iraqi Kurdistan to recount the fates of the over 1.4 million people fleeing ISIS. The screening, followed by a discussion on women, peace and security will take place at the Swedish Residence on Saturday from 3:30pm-6pm.

If you haven’t had a chance to check out one of the capital’s best art festivals, be sure to hit up the Jakarta Biannale before it’s last day on Sunday. This year’s edition takes on the theme of JIWA (which most directly translates as soul but also encompasses ideas of artistic energy and spirit) and features works from many of Indonesia’s most accomplished and rising artists, as well as creators from 50 other countries.
