5 Cool Things To Do in Jakarta This Weekend (Sept 30 – Oct 2)

Geek out at Indonesia Comic-Con! (Saturday and Sunday)

Indonesia’s biggest and best celebration of comics, cartoons, toys, cosplay and pop culture is back this weekend at the Jakarta Convention Center. Among the geek heroes headlining this year’s convention include Hiroshi Fujioka, who played the original Kamen Rider,  Briana Hildebrand, who played Negasonic Teenage Warhead in the blockbuster hit “Deadpool” and Iko Uwais, the star of the Raid films and the upcoming “Headshot”.

In addition to panel discussions with industry legends and an enormous cosplay competition, there will be tons of amazing collectibles on display and for sale at this years. One of the launches we are most excited about is the debut of Zagadraya, a line of comics, toys and video games from GoodGuysNeverWin that take place in a stunning post-apocalyptic vision of a future Jakarta where mecha made out of bajaj battle giant monsters!

Pop over to Jakarta’s most famous pop-up market, Brightspot

The mother of all pop-up markets in Jakarta, the annual Brightspot market is the original and, many would say, still the best. This year’s Brightspot, featuring an enormous (but still curated) collection of local designer brands, is where to find out what Jakarta’s hip set will be wearing for the next year. If shopping for accessories isn’t your thing, they also have an awesome selection of F&B stands providing all sorts of creative confections and treats for your consumption. For more info.

Party and guffaw for a great cause at the Red Nose Foundation’s Festival of Laughs (Saturday night)

The Red Nose Foundation is a fantastic charity that helps empower kids in low-income communities through education and skill development (and yes, among the skills they teach is clowning). This weekend they are holding the Festival of Laughs, a gala dinner event aimed at raising funds for the foundation. In addition to a great dinner, there will also be free flow beer and cocktails and entertainment including US stand-up comedian Melanie Maras, a variety of local comedians and live music. Tickets start at Rp 1.4 million. For more info contact 021-7691162 or info@rednosefoundation.org

Bust a move at Colosseum’s 2nd Anniversary party featuring Showtek (Friday night)

It’s kind of hard to believe that Colosseum is only now celebrating its 2nd anniversary, so firmly has it embedded itself in Jakarta’s nightlife scene. Considered by many to have the most spectacular setup of any dance club in Jakarta (with more lasers than a Star Wars movie), Colosseum will be celebrating its 2nd birthday with a set by Showtek, a Dutch EDM duo consisting of two brothers who ranked 17th in the Top 100 DJs list of 2014.

Drink like you mean it at Potato Head’s Cocktail Party (Saturday)
If your idea of an ideal night is sipping down plenty of craft cocktails, then Potato Head in Pacific Place may be the perfect spot for you to spend this Saturday. For Rp 350k++, you can drink an unlimited quantity of their original cocktails – nearly 30 in all – from 9pm until midnight. Considering a quality cocktail can easily cost you Rp 120k++ these days, this is a pretty good deal (depending on your drinking speed). The cocktain party deal takes place on the first Saturday of every month so if you can’t make it this time there’s always next month! For more info
