If you have a love for comic books, toys, games, fantasy films or any other geeky pastime, then the Jakarta Convention Center is where you need to head this weekend to take part in the capital’s ultimate pop culture celebration, Indonesia Comic Con. If nothing else, being able to check out all of the amazingly creative cosplayers in their elaborate costumes is worth the price of admission alone. Tickets Rp 90k. Bounce over to the Bollywood Charity Sale (Sunday)

Put on by Karma Kids, this sale will feature 20 vendors selling a variety of items such as clothing, pre-loved books, video games, movies and lifestyle products, with the proceeds going to their Meals on Wheels initiative, which brings nutritious and delicious food to the less fortunate. The event’s Bollywood theme means there will be plenty of Indian entertainment on hand as well. And it also takes place at Southbox, a cool new food court and hangout spot in South Jakarta [think Pasar Santa in an outdoor setting], making this an excellent opportunity to check it out if you haven’t had a chance yet.
Get artsy at the Jakarta Biennale

Only held once every two years, the Jakarta Biennale, which is taking place at Gudang Sarinah this year, has its official opening event on Saturday and its numerous exhibits will be open to the public until mid-January. The theme of the biennale is “Maju Kena Mundur Kena: Bertindak Sekarang” (Neither Back nor Forward: Acting in the Present) and will feature the works of 42 Indonesian artists and 28 international artists exploring topics surrounding history, gender, the economy, social affairs, politics, and the environment. Eat drink and be merry Mediterranean style at Mama Rosy’s “Notte Mediterranea” (Friday night)

Mama Rosy is generally considered one of Jakarta’s best Italian restaurants and tonight’s “Notte Mediterranea” event shows why people love it so much. For Rp 250k you get access to an all-you-can-eat buffet plus one drink, but what really makes this a great deal is the fact that all drinks after, including wine, spirits and imported beers, are only Rp 50k! Based on past experience, the food and crowd should be fantastic and dancing will almost certainly break out at some point.

The good folks at Globetrotter Magazine definitely know how to throw a good party, and their shindig tonight at Queenshead in Kemang promises to be epic thanks to the presence of Rich Medina, whose Jump N Funk Afrobeat parties are absolutely legendary in the US. There will also be a showing of the film “Music is the Weapon” starting at 8:30pm. FDC Rp 150k.
