This weekend the Australian Embassy is hosting this fab film festival at Cinema XXI in Plaza Senayan where you can watch some spectacular movies from Oz as well as some gems from Indonesia as well. The headlining film is the “The Dressmaker”, a new film starring Kate Winslet that has earned excellent reviews from critics. We’re also excited to finally see Indonesian indie film “The Mirror Never Lies”. For more info, check out our preview.

Take in the artistic dialogue between two amazing artists at the “Conversation: Endless Acts in Human History” exhibition

The above film festival is not the only Australian-Indonesian artistic collaboration taking place this weekend. Art lovers should also check out “Conversation: Endless Acts in Human History” an exhibition featuring the works of Australian artist Amy Smart and Indonesian artist Entang Wiharso, who are both considered among the vanguard of the contemporary arts scene in their respective countries. After meeting in Melbourne in 2012, the two became close friends and that friendship eventually led them to create this uniquely collaborative exhibition at Galeri Nasional Indonesia. Eat drink and be merry Mediterranean-style at Mama Rosy’s “Notte Mediterranea” (Friday night)
 

Mama Rosy’s is generally considered among Jakarta’s best Italian restaurants and their regular “Notte Mediterranea” event shows why. For Rp 250k you get access to an all-you-can-eat buffet plus one drink, but what really makes this a great deal is the fact that all drinks after tha including wine, spirits and imported beers, are only Rp 50k! The food is always great, the crowd is lively and dancing is also on the agenda.

Hear some awesome indie bands at a special international edition of Superbad! (Sunday night)

Superbad! is the long-running monthly independent live music event that takes place at Jaya Pub (the oldest bar in Jakarta). It’s generally known for showcasing up-and-coming local acts but this Sunday’s show is a bit of an exception, with Jakarta band Kelompok Penerbang Roket sharing the stage with Dirgahayu from Kuala Lumpur and eclectic Canadian artist Hudson Glover.
