Stuff your face at Eat Republic

Pop-up markets have ironically become an ever-present part of Jakarta’s consumer landscape, but most of them divide their space between clothing/accessory boutiques and food stalls. But this weekend’s Eat Republic event at Grand Indonesia is all about the food. In fact, it has 70 stalls offering up every kind of tasty treat you can imagine, from fried chicken and siomay to funnel cakes and cold-press juices. And most are very reasonably priced, so you can sample a ton of dishes without breaking the bank. Check out all the tenants here: https://instagram.com/culinaryescape/

2. Get nostalgic at the ‘90s Festival (Saturday)

Frente. P-Project. Chameleon. Protonema. Bunglon. If you recommend most of these bands, you were probably an Indonesian music lover in the 1990s. For those who want a nostalgia trip, the ‘90s Festival is bringing many of that decade’s most popular acts together, many of whom are performing together for the first time in years just for this festival. For tickets and more info http://the90sfestival.com/

3. Check out Carnival Kemang

Kemang is much more than just an expat enclave for nightlife and food, it’s also a melting pot where people from lots of different cultures get together. Carnival Kemang is a celebration of that, with lots of different cultural displays, bazaars and food offerings on tap. For more info, check out: http://carnivalkemang.com/2015/
