Celebrated Ubud restaurant Locavore has returned to Jakarta for a temporary residency at Mandarin Oriental hotel.

Titled, “The Unknown: An Edible Mystery Explored,” patrons will have a chance to try dishes from Locavore’s latest tasting menu, The Unknown, until Sunday, March 27.

Locavore serves “modern, creative cuisine” through a tasting menu experience, which is updated every four months with new themes according to what’s available locally — with The Unknown marking the start of the dry season in Bali. You can expect dried and cured meats, and dishes that utilize various parts of a plant on the menu, as well as other interesting dishes such as the spice rub cured fish and smoked fish bone “butter.”

The Unknown set menu will set you back at IDR995,000++ and an additional IDR495,000++ for creative drink pairings with cocktails to enhance your dining experience, though you can also purchase your alcoholic drinks of choice a la carte. The menu contains animal proteins, with vegetarian options available upon request.

The Unknown tasting menu is available every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday from 6pm, with prices subject to taxes and charges.

There’s also Butcher’s Table on Sundays, a changing menu showcasing the best of locally-sourced meats by Local Parts, Locavore’s butcher shop, during lunchtime from 12pm to 3pm. A three-course set menu is available for IDR725,000++.

Additionally, Locavore’s Indonesian restaurant Nusantara will also return to celebrate Ramadan from April 2 to May 1 with their Rantang takeover. It features a weekly changing menu during the fasting month featuring special dishes by their guest chefs to be delivered to your home or office.

Locavore is a “small and unassuming restaurant” established in 2013 by chef-owners Eelke Plasmeijer and Ray Adriansyah. The restaurant is known for their dedication to sustainability, using fresh seasonal produce and ethically-fed animals from local farmers, fishers, and food artisans in Indonesia.

Today, Locavore has several brands under their wing including Nusantara, The Night Rooster cocktail bar, its sister restaurant Locavore to Go, and Local Parts.

Prior to The Unknown, Locavore ran a cinematic tasting menu experience dubbed The Fourth Wall for four months.
