If the long queues are any indication, Jakartans are very much into bubble tea — commonly known as boba — as of late (on top of our local es kopi obsession). While boba has been around for ages, it has been undergoing some sort renaissance in the city with the arrival of more variations of the drink, such as cheese tea and brown sugar boba milk.

If you want to go on a quest to try every new boba place in town, then Boba Fest, which will be held at Gandaria City mall’s ground floor premium parking area from September 25-29, may just hit your sweet spot.

At Boba Fest, there will be more than 25 participating boba brands, including homegrown chains Fat Bubble, Fat Straw, Gulu-Gulu, Heycha, and Kokumi; renowned Taiwanese brown sugar boba specialists OneZo, Tiger Sugar, and Xing Fu Tang; as well as more established players like Chatime and Koi Thé. Malaysian boba brand Daboba, which hasn’t opened any outlet in Jakarta, will also make an exclusive appearance at the festival.

Due to the hype of these tapioca pearls drinks, we expect there will be long lines at every booth. So you might want to allocate more time of your day to try the boba of your dreams.
