The dining scene in Jakarta is about to get hotter with the arrival of American smokehouse Meatsmith, courtesy of the people behind Singapore’s famed bar and grill restaurant, Burnt Ends.

Meatsmith, which opens today, is operated by the Burnt Ends Hospitality Group, which owns the one Michelin-starred restaurant of the same name. Opened in 2013 by chef and owner Dave Pynt, the modern wood fire restaurant Burnt Ends in Dempsey Hill has since become a household name in Singapore’s lively dining scene.

After the success of Burnt Ends, the group went on to open Meatsmith, which promises a “real-deal barbeque that exists outside of America’s traditional barbecue heartlands using heat, char, smoke, and the grill while covering barbecue from various aspects, ideologies, cultures, and flavors.”

Meatsmith Jakarta is set to become Burnt Ends Hospitality Group’s third international location after Meatsmith in Doha, Qatar and The Ledge in the Maldives.

Located on South Jakarta’s hip eateries hub Gunawarman Street, Meatsmith’s Jakarta restaurant offers a relaxed and casual atmosphere. The building will also host the restaurant’s quick-service brand called Meatsmith Xpress, which will open soon.

Chef Dave Pynt says that he believes magic comes from cooking with wood, which manifests in Meatsmith’s grilled signature burgers, marbled steaks, tender brisket, and ribs that are smoked for up to 14 hours.

There are also Jakarta-exclusive dishes such as the 14-hour smoked brisket with date purée, tahini dressing, and watercress salad; 12-hour smoked beef short ribs served with corn purée and sautéed corn topped with parsley salad and pickled red onion; and cold smoked grilled lobster served with smoked potato purée, crispy potato chips, and agrodolce (sweet and sour Italian condiment).

Head to the bar area for an aperitif or late-night drink by choosing from Meatsmith’s curated international wine selection, classic cocktails, craft beers, as well as an extensive spirit collection that’s focused on fine whiskies and bourbons.
