Our trusted “makan dimana?” (“where to eat?”) companion Zomato has officially bid farewell to Indonesia, as the restaurant directory app is no longer accessible in the country.

Without prior notice, a goodbye message now greets visitors to Zomato’s website and app. Users may be redirected towards Zomato’s active markets India and the UAE.

“It has been a great run but we have, sadly, stopped our operations here!” the message reads for Zomato users in Jakarta.

Though this may come as a shock to some, the app actually announced that it was shutting down its Indonesia office in 2020, citing pandemic struggles.

Since then, users were still able to access the app’s restaurant directory, though updates were notably few and far between as the app’s content maintenance was carried out directly from Zomato’s HQ in India.

Zomato’s social media game has been virtually non-existent since October 2020. Even so, some users have in recent days written in the comment sections of their latest posts bemoaning that the app has left Indonesia for good.

“Turns out you have ceased operations in Indonesia. Thanks for accompanying my culinary adventures over the years,” one user wrote in tribute.
