Red is in season at yet another durian festival in Mall Artha Gading (April 2-10)

Judging by the excitement caused by the news of the durian festival that took place in Blok M Square earlier this month, we’re guessing more than a few of you will be happy (or terrified) to hear that there is going to be yet another durian festival taking place very soon in Jakarta.

That’s right. From April 2-10, Mall Artha Gading in North Jakarta is going to be hosting a festival for the divisive king of fruits.

Unlike previous festivals though, this one is specifically going to promote the red durian, which is somewhat less popular but still, in our humble opinion, just as yummy as the likes of durian monthong and durian Medan.

“There are 60 species of red durian around Banyuwangi [East Java] alone. For this durian festival, there is likely to be at least five species of red durian,” said Kiki Fadhilah of Urban Green Festival, the event’s organizers, as quoted by Kompas Travel.

Not down with red? Fear not – for the festival is also going to showcase some of the best Indonesian durian types from Bogor, Pandeglang, Semarang, Magelang, Wonosobo, and Banjarnegara.

If you can’t stomach raw durian, you can always retreat to the kiddy corner (figuratively speaking) of durian desserts like es durian and durian pancakes.

Entrance to the festival is free, but the durians themselves are going to cost at least Rp 75K per kilogram (and those things are heavy af).
