Two McDonald’s-related stories in a week must be some kind of record for us. But we promise this is relevant to our fast food-loving readers.

McDonald’s has reopened in Central Jakarta’s Thamrin, but not in the site of their old iconic first Indonesian restaurant.

One may recall the outpouring of sorrow when McDonald’s shut its restaurant in Sarinah mall in 2020, which had become a landmark of sorts in the bustling Thamrin area since it opened in 1991.

The restaurant had to close its Sarinah outlet, as the shopping mall underwent a major renovation and transformed into a cultural as well as a shopping hub.

While the new restaurant is not located specifically in the new Sarinah, it can be found across the street from the mall in Jaya Building. The swanky new outlet opened on July 1 and operates 24 hours a day. It offers various facilities and services, such as a prayer room, free Wi-Fi, self-ordering kiosks and delivery options.

McDonald’s Thamrin Jaya also features a new design concept called RAY, which is different from the usual bright and cheerful atmosphere of McDonald’s restaurants. The design is more simple, classic and elegant, and aims to provide a relaxing and comfortable space for customers to enjoy their meals.

The new McDonald’s restaurant in Thamrin is the latest addition to the more than 200 outlets that the fast food giant has in Indonesia. It said that it decided to return to Thamrin to continue its long-standing relationship with the area and its loyal customers.
