You may know Ban Ban, a local chain specializing in cheese tea, from their Instagram-famous Boba Pan. People reportedly have had to queue for more than one hour just to get a taste of the dessert, which consists of buttery warm brioche toast, cream cheese, and chewy boba pearls.
Now, the queue might be even longer, as Ban Ban launched a collaboration with chocolate malt drink Ovaltine yesterday. They promised a modern take on the nostalgia-tinged beverage, as many Indonesians used to drink Ovaltine during their childhood.
There are two products in this edition: Crunchy Ovaltine Pan, with charcoal toast and cream cheese topped with Ovaltine crunch; and Double Crunchy Ovaltine, a chocolate boba drink with Ovaltine crunch on top. You can buy a bundle of the two at IDR55,000++ (US$3.93).
At the moment, the Ban Ban x Ovaltine menu is only available for dine-in and takeaway, so if you plan to get your hands on them this weekend, prepare yourself ahead of the long queue.
Should Ban Ban run out of the special edition by the time you get to the cashier, you can still get the usual Boba Pan or the Beri Beri Chizu (a blend of tea and mixed berries topped with cheese) or Miruku Boba (brown sugar milk tea boba topped with cheese and torched brulee topping) instead.
