Time flew by so fast since % Arabica first opened its Jakarta outlets back in February. Just nine months after opening their stores at Central Park Mall in West Jakarta and Ashta District 8 SCBD in South Jakarta, the famed Kyoto coffee chain is set to open a third store in Plaza Indonesia, Central Jakarta today.
As written on % Arabica’s official Indonesian Instagram page, this will be the chain’s 105th store worldwide. In line with the brand’s reputation when it comes to aesthetics, the Plaza Indonesia store is designed by renowned Japanese interior architecture firm Nomura Kougeisha.
You may expect the same menu for caffeinated and non-caffeinated drinks at the new store, but here’s some good news for those who love ice cream and coffee just the same: % Arabica Plaza Indonesia will finally serve the chain’s % Soft Cream.
Made with its signature % Arabica Blend, the soft-serve ice cream promises an “intense coffee flavor with a hint of sweetness.” At the moment, the % Soft Cream will only be available at the Plaza Indonesia store — we understand you might want to be among the first people to try it, but please be mindful of the possible crowds at the opening today as we’re still living in a pandemic.
Since the chain first landed in Jakarta, % Arabica has been one of the hottest spots (both for the coffee and for the ‘gram) in the capital despite the raging COVID-19 pandemic.
The brainchild of Japan-born businessman Kenneth Shoji, % Arabica has become quite a tourist draw, as visitors usually take their sweet time to take photos against the signature clean white interior. The chain appears to be growing rapidly in the past couple of years with further worldwide expansions, including the opening of numerous stores in Southeast Asia, such as in Singapore and Bangkok, to name a few.
