It may be 2015, but the Jakarta provincial government is keen to keep old Jakarta traditions alive by instructing mini markets in the city to sell products like nasi uduk (coconut rice) and bir pletok (spicy ginger drink, not actual beer).
“[They are to be sold] inside [the mini markets]. So the packaging has to be good. There’s going to be well-packaged nasi uduk and bir pletok. Not actual beer, though,” said Jakarta Regional Secretary Saefullah today, as quoted by Detik.
Saefullah said Governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama has already given his approval.
“Pak governor has no problem with it. As long as it creates work for small businesses around the mini markets. We are advising all mini markets [to follow the government’s instruction],” he said.
“We will come up with an official instruction soon.”
