What comes to your mind when hearing the name Holywings? Its chicken wings, live music performances, or a slew of COVID-19 health protocol violations? The popular chain of hangout spots is now making headlines for a completely different reason: swapping liquor with non-alcoholic traditional sweet beverages at a new branch.
Holywings opened its new branch in Bogor city, West Java yesterday. Located in the Baranangsiang area, East Bogor district, the Bogor branch marks the first Holywings location with a family-friendly concept, to comply with a request by the city’s mayor Bima Arya Sugiarto.
Bima previously revealed a number of requirements that need to be fulfilled by Holywings to open in Bogor, one of which is not serving beverages with alcohol content of more than five percent. He explained that the ban must be enforced so that the establishment does not attract ruckus.
Coconuts has confirmed with Holywings that the requirement does not exclude beer from being served at the premises. In addition, Holywings Bogor also offers cocktails with low alcoholic content.
At any rate, Bima also requested Holywings to serve Sundanese ginger-based hot and sweet beverages such as bajigur and bandrek in lieu of the usual cocktails and liquor. Bajigur is usually sweeter than bandrek, the latter of which is spicier as it is consumed by people living in the highlands.
“Because Bogor City is a family-oriented city. This [Holywings] should be family-friendly, and comfortable for families. I also want local flavors such as bajigur, bandrek, bansus (bandrek susu or bandrek with milk), to be served here. Those drinks are the pride of Sunda,” Bima said during the Holywings Bogor opening yesterday.
Bima also ordered Holywings to obey rules under Level 3 of the Enforcement of Restrictions on Public Activities (PPKM) protocol currently imposed in Bogor, which include operating at 50 percent capacity until 9pm.
