If you’re a fan of steak as well as other varieties of beef dishes, you definitely don’t want to miss out on The Great Steak Escape, which has returned to Jakarta for its second edition this month.

The Great Steak Escape is organized by True Aussie Beef & Lamb, a brand initiated by Meat & Livestock Australia (MLA) to market Australian beef, lamb, and goat produced worldwide, which aims to promote the “great taste, quality, and nutrition of Australian beef to Indonesian consumers.” The event is happening throughout the month of March.

This is the second year of The Great Steak Escape, during which foodies will embark on an “escape” to explore a variety of Australian beef through different cuts, including chuck or rump cap, which are prepared with different cooking methods and cuisine styles by executive chefs from 24 top restaurants in Jakarta.

The participating restaurants this year include AMUZ Gourmet Restaurant, Caspar Jakarta, Cutt & Grill, Meatsmith Jakarta, Nara Senopati, SKYE Bar & Restaurant, Tucano’s Brazilian BBQ, William’s Casual Dining, as well as restaurants in 5-star hotels such as PA.SO.LA Restaurant at The Ritz-Carlton Jakarta Pacific Place, VIEW Steak Bar at Fairmont Jakarta, and Alto Restaurant & Bar at Four Seasons Jakarta.

Treat your tastebuds at the partnering restaurants through special menu items such as Wagyu Paella, Wagyu Rump Bites with Truffle Vinaigrette and Garlic Chips, Australian Picanha & Prime Top Sirloin in Brazilian BBQ style, 45 Days Dry Aged John Stone Irish Tomahawk, and Chuck Eye Roll Yakiniku, among many other mouth-watering options.

By attracting the customers to revisit their favorite restaurants as well as allowing them to explore ones they’re not particularly familiar with, the event also hopes to support the food service industry, which is slowly recovering from the impact caused by the COVID-19 pandemic in the past two years.

We were invited to the kick-off yesterday to learn more about the event and the brand, during which we enjoyed a late lunch starring Australian beef steak. During the event, we learned that all Australian red meat that enter Indonesia is Halal-certified, which caters to the country’s large Muslim population.

On top of that, our table was served a medium Wagyu Rib Eye by Steak Hotel by HOLYCOW!, along with mashed potatoes, stir-fry spinach, and their signature mushroom cream sauce prepared by Chef Wynda Mardio just next to our table. We’re happy to report that both the tenderness and taste of the state were delightful.

“We want to invite Indonesians to explore beyond popular cuts of beef such as Sirloin and Tenderloin because there are many delicious cuts of meat that are less well-known but equally delicious,” Christian Haryanto, MLA Indonesia’s business development manager, said in a statement.

“We hope that expanding consumer knowledge of different cuts of meat will allow foodies to make everyday extraordinary by treating themselves to quality meats and turn every meal into an indulgence.”

For more details about The Great Steak Escape 2022, you can check out the list of the participating restaurants and their special menus on the event’s official Instagram page to prepare ahead of your visit. Who knows, the event might even prepare you for an authentic farm-to-table dining experience in Australia soon, especially as our neighbors Down Under recently reopened their border.
