Toko Kopi Tuku, a humble coffee chain from South Jakarta that popularized the trend of affordable es kopi susu — a mixture of iced latte, creamer, and liquid coconut sugar (gula aren in Indonesian), has recently opened a new store on Jalan Karang Tengah in Lebak Bulus, South Jakarta, adding one more outlet to the huge popular chain.
According to Tuku’s Instagram post, the idea to open another store came after its founder, Andanu Prasetyo, was riding his motorcycle to Cinere recently. As he stopped at the traffic lights on Karang Tengah, he stumbled upon a small empty building that was available for rent.
If you’ve been a frequent customer of Tuku since its early days, the new outlet gives off a similar vibe as their first store in Cipete, which opened in 2015. The Karang Tengah store is located right in the middle of busy neighborhoods in Lebak Bulus, Pondok Labu, Cilandak, as well as the Cinere sub-district in Depok.
You will have to physically go to the store for a cup of es kopi because, like other Tuku outlets, its products are not available through food delivery services. At the moment, the new outlet opens from 6am to 9pm.
When they first opened, Toko Kopi Tuku was advertised as a “neighborhood coffee shop,” selling a variety of affordable cups of coffee. Their signature Es Kopi Susu Tetangga (neighbor’s es kopi with milk) has become a game-changer in the local coffee scene.
In 2017, Indonesian President Joko Widodo visited its Cipete store, which further propelled Tuku to its meteoric fame.
