UPDATE: The three men who were hiking with Kwok at the time of his disappearance have been arrested.
A young man has been found dead after he went missing on a night hike in Tseung Kwan O over the weekend.
Bosco Kwok, 20, set off towards Black Hill with three friends in the early hours of yesterday. Upon reaching the site, the group was reportedly planning on holding war games — military simulations with replica guns.
At about 3:30am, Kwok reportedly received a phone call and said he had to leave. He asked his friends for the fastest way to get down the hill and took a route that he was unfamiliar with, according to Oriental Daily.
About half an hour later, Kwok’s friends called him but received no answer. When he failed to return home that morning, his mother called the police. The Fire Services Department and Government Flying Services conducted a land and air search for the youth, but had difficulty locating him as he was dressed in camouflage gear.
At 8:24am today, roughly 28 hours after Kwok was last seen alive, firefighters found him unconscious on a hillside facing Kwong Tin Estate. Firefighters administered first aid but the 20-year-old was declared dead on the scene. No cause of death has been announced.
An investigation by the East Kowloon regional crime unit is underway.
