Cycling in Hong Kong can be perilous, you never know if you might hit a minibus, a police car, or when your bike might spontaneously burst into flames.
For an idea of what the latter scenario looks like, check out this clip from Apple Daily, showing a cyclist’s headlamp catching on fire as he rode on Carpenter Road opposite Kowloon City Plaza about 10pm yesterday.
The moment was captured on dash cam by an eyewitness surnamed Wong.
Wong told the newspaper he was preparing to turn into Lion Rock Road when he heard a “pop” sound and saw the bike on his left was suddenly on fire.

Dash cam video shows the cyclist veer left onto the sidewalk and topple over as pedestrians try to get away from the flaming bike.
The newspaper reports that it’s not clear if the cyclist sustained any injuries or was taken to hospital following the incident.
Almost definitely he needed a new headlamp at the very least.
