Hong Kong cyclist’s narrow brush with death

Crossing the road in Hong Kong can be pretty dangerous, from this woman who narrowly avoided having her head crushed in Sai Kung, to this woman who had her foot amputated after being hit by a bus in Mong Kok.

But while crossing a road in Hong Kong as a pedestrian is dangerous, the city’s traffic is equally — if not more — perilous for cyclists, as this clip posted today shows.

The video posted on Camvideo HK, a channel dedicated almost exclusively to dash cam videos from cars in Hong Kong, captures a cyclist’s collision with a minibus as he attempts to across the road with his bike.

The video is believed to have taken place on Yuen Long On Ning Road.

With a large truck partially blocking his view, the poor cyclist did not see the vehicle coming.

The cyclist – who is not wearing a helmet – collides with the front right-hand side of the minibus, falls off his bike, hits his head on the side of the bus, and lands on his backside.

Fortunately, the cyclist gets up, motions to the driver of the minibus that he is ok, and takes his bike to the side of the road.

Could have been much worse, to say the least.
