Hooters, gone.
The beer-and-wings “breastaurant” in Central has closed up shop, leaving only a sign promising to return on the other side of Victoria Harbour, in an “exciting” Kowloon location.
It also apologizes for the inconvenience. Apology accepted.
The announcement appeared over the weekend at the US franchise’s only location in the city on Wyndham Street.
The shuttering comes after two publicized eviction threats by the bar’s landlord, the Dor Fook Company, the latest in January, when a court claim was lodged claiming the chain had failed to pay some HK$1.52 million (US$194,300) in rent.
The landlord also pursued similar legal action in September over three months of unpaid rent amounting to HK$1.3 million (US$166,200).
Earlier this year, a manager at the Wydnham Hooters brushed aside the reports when Coconuts HK went for the purposes of reporting.
He said the company was, in fact, hiring and was not going to shut its doors. That apparently was … not true.
According to former Hooters Asia president Daniel Yong, who left the company soon after reporting the second legal action, both payments were said to be settled, wrote the SCMP.
So begins Hooters watch, part deux.
