Eric Tsang has announced that he has taken legal action against a leading figure in China’s modeling industry after she alleged that he tried to take advantage of some of her models by spiking their drinks.

Tsang — who arrived with his actor son Derek, and two lawyers — made the announcement during a press conference in Tsim Sha Tsui yesterday at about 4:30pm, and it was the first time he publicly addressed the issue in front of cameras.

The woman he is suing is Grace Han, former head of the Ford Modeling agency in Asia, who is referred to in the mainland as the “godmother of modeling.”

Han claimed in a message on Weibo last week that Tsang and his friends spiked her models’ drinks at a karaoke bar in Hong Kong.

She made the comments after a video interview in which former actress Yammie Lam alleged that two men from the Hong Kong entertainment industry raped her reappeared online last week, this time identifying Tsang as one of the perpetrators.

During the press conference, he said comments made by Han were defamatory, and the allegations by Lam were a “complete fabrication.”

“I respect women, and I will be cooperative with any form of investigation, and I am determined to safeguard my reputation via legal means.”

He continued: “As for the untrue allegations made by Ms Han on Weibo, I have already taken legal action to sue her.”

Tsang continued that the alleged incident was already the subject of a 2006 defamation suit that he won. He said: “We cleared our name, but people still bring it up after all these years.”

He added: “Rumors and internet violence may only last for just a moment, but the damage to the people concerned can be lifelong. ”

Tsang addressed reporters for 10 minutes, giving his statement in Cantonese and Mandarin, and did not take any questions afterwards.

The actor’s lawyer reminded the public that republishing libelous remarks about Tsang might constitute a crime.

Han responded to Tsang’s press conference with this post on her Weibo account, accompanied by a picture of her giving two thumbs up saying: “Worrying about an old lady? No need. Suing an old lady? I’m here sitting and waiting!”
