The police will summon the owner of a fallen banyan tree on Soi Chitlom to face criminal charges after the tree’s collapse killed a motorcyclist as they were stopped at a red light last Saturday.

The gigantic tree, which was located on the property of the Alma Link Building, fell onto some power cables, causing five electric poles to collapse onto the road. One of the poles crushed the woman, identified as Natchapat Somjet, 25. She died instantly.

Two other people were injured and sent to hospitals, reported Matichon.

Metropolitan Police Bureau chief Sanit Mahathavorn said the owner of the Alma Link Building, who was not identified, is scheduled to meet with the police next Tuesday and they will be prosecuted, reported Thai PBS News.

Alma Link Building manager Pongsak Ruangpotikorn attended Natchapat’s funeral and offered THB150,000, about USD4,350, to the deceased’s family. The injured victims were given THB30,000 compensation and had their hospital expenses paid for.

After the incident, Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha paid condolences to Natchapat’s family and asked the related organizations to provide them with financial aid, according to INN.
