The man, whose identity has not been revealed, was summoned to a police station Sunday because, as the national police chief said, he matched several aspects of the robber’s profile, including his height, skin color and use of the same shoulder bag.
While DNA was being taken from the suspect in the highly charged case, Gen. Chaktip Chaijinda said the police are not ready to conclude he committed the crime.
Update: Mob gathers as police bring in suspect in Lopburi gold shop murders
The robbery-murder took place Jan. 9 inside the Robinson Lifestyle Lopburi mall. The masked gunman’s victims included a toddler, and he injured four others. He successfully escaped with 28 baht weight of gold, worth only THB635,000 (US$21,000).
Police seemed to have little evidence to go on and made little progress in the case due to an apparent lack of evidence despite intense public interest in its resolution. That didn’t stop investigators from claiming to make progress as they reviewed security cameras along the routes believed to be have been used by the perpetrator as he made flight. Officers also have also been monitoring land borders.
A reward for information to bring the shooter to justice has climbed to over THB500,000 thanks to police, the gold shop and private citizens. Anyone with information can contact the police via 191 or 1599.
