Mob gathers as police bring in suspect in Lopburi gold shop murders

An angry mob gathered just after noon outside the Lopburi Tourist Police Station on Wednesday to call for the death of an educator from a neighboring province as he was being brought inside on suspicion of multiple homicide.

National police chief Gen. Chakthip Chaijinda confirmed in brief comments afterward that 38-year-old school director Prasittichai Khaokaew was arrested on suspicion of being the gunman who opened fire in a gold shop in Lopburi province earlier this month, killing three people including a toddler.

Chakthip said he could not discuss the matter further as the investigation was ongoing. He said more details would be announced Thursday.

The crime inflamed the public but an urgent manhunt had turned up no results for the past two weeks following the Jan. 9 incident.

Prasittichai is the director of the Wat Pho Chai School in neighboring Singburi province.
