Remember postcards? Postcards….yeah! Those things we used to put in that… what was it called? Mailbox! Well, postcards and tourists still go hand in hand, but Thailand’s tired old postcards have been the same for decades. They are in need of some serious revamping. And what better way to develop authentic postcards than with authentic photos?
To show visitors the authentic side of the Kingdom, Visa Thailand and the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) have launched a new campaign called “See Thailand through Local Eyes”. The campaign urges local people to take unique photos of their favorite foods, things to do and places to see and post the photos on Instagram using the hashtags #notatourist #VisaThailand.

The campaign launched with a bang on June 3, 2016 at the Sofitel So Bangkok with a screening of the short film “Visa #notatourist Thailand Postcard Reshoot” directed by Benz Thanachart Siripatrachai, the same guy who shot 2014’s viral sensation “BKK 1st Time“, which saw an old professor in New York recounting his time in Bangkok. Watch the short film here:

Benz has even prepped some lucky local people with his very own Street Photography course. The budding photographers received tips on how to creatively capture the local Thai perspective on film (or screen, rather) and now they’re out photographing Thailand.

The result: a unique collection of snapshots from a local perspective that visitors can easily navigate and share. Wondering what to eat in Chiang Mai? Or where to relax in Bangkok? Select from categories “Do”, “Eat”, “Shop”, “Stay”, “Relax”, “Go” and choose a Thai city.

It goes to show that when you’re #notatourist you see another side of Thailand – one that’s filled with delicious food and some very cool destinations. These hidden moments, before only accessible to locals, are now ready to browse.
That’s where you come in. Join the campaign and you might have your photo printed as one of 100,000 new postcards that Visa Thailand and TAT plan to print and distribute worldwide. Your photos could inspire people across the globe to visit Thailand and experience something as a local, #notatourist.
To join simply Instagram and Facebook your photos with the hashtag #VisaThailand #notatourist. Every month there will be Gopro Set and Fuji Instax mini 90 digital giveaways for the best photos on facebook.com/VisaThailandTH from 15th June onwards. Stay Tuned!
