Bangkok’s own glam gal Pangina Heals will be among nine contestants in an Olympics for drag queens set to air next month.
Pangina’s alter ego Pan Pan Nakprasert announced yesterday that she be the only queen from Asia to vie for the crown in RuPaul’s Drag Race UK Versus the World when it airs next month.
“I am exploding with joy and tears of happiness,” Pangina wrote on Instagram. “I can finally scream it from the rooftops with so much excitement. This is the biggest thing I have ever done … Dreams do come true and it is time for me to show the world who Pangina Heals is.”
Pangina will be joined on the BBC Drag Race spinoff by renowned queens from six continents. From the United Kingdom come Baga Chipz, Blu Hydrangea, Cheryl Hole. Canada has fielded national treasures Jimbo and Lemon, while Janey Jacke will fly from Holland. Former contestants from All Stars – Jujubee and Mo Heart – also will also compete for the title of “Queen of the Mothertucking World.”
RuPaul, Michelle Visage, Graham Norton, and Alan Carr will be seated as regular judges.
The show will premiere Feb. 1 on BBC Three. Bad news for fans in Thailand – at least those not equipped with a VPN to circumvent the region lock.
As Pangina, Pan Pan is one of Thailand’s most famous drag performers. She has hosted Drag Race Thailand, a homespun version of RuPaul’s Drag Race and headlined at nightlife venues including a regular stint at Maggie Choo’s. In 2014, she hosted six-episode reality queen series Queer As Fuck on Coconuts TV.
In the first year of the pandemic, Pan Pan opened a short-lived drag bar near Victory Monument called House of Heals that shut down and may reopen again in the future.
