Love wine, but prefer sipping it with some spicy and pungent dishes? A nose-to-tail Ekkamai diner will bring together a culinary odd couple later this month of Isaan-style tapas with selected amber wines.

Don’t miss the one-off collaboration at 100 Mahaseth Ekkamai where owner and chef Chalee Kader will serve tapas versions of northeastern classics alongside a selection of amber wines (skin-fermented white wine, it is) curated by Kim Wachtveitl, owner of local vino supplier Wine Garage.

The 11-serving course, at THB1,300 per person, will feature some of the joint’s best hits like roasted bone marrow with perilla seeds; a visually pleasing pineapple delicately seasoned in pla raa (fermented fish) and served with flash-cooked cockles; and termite mushrooms with eggs.

Diners will get three glasses of wine including a 2019 Borachio pinot grigio from the Adelaide Hills in Australia and the Montenidoli Vernaccia di San Gimignano from Tuscany. They vary in process from short maceration to limit how long the skin and bits soak in the fermented wine to extended contact, so diners can explore a range of amber offerings. Red wine will be on hand as well.

The course will be available only at 7pm on Oct. 21 at 100 Mahaseth’s Ekkamai branch.
