Two Bangkok bars snagged spots on a coveted list of the world’s finest bars last night.
BKK Social Club soared to No. 14 from No. 90 last year in the World’s 50 Best Bars ranking, while new entry Tropic City swooped in at No. 24. The results were announced live in Barcelona, with recognized bars spanning 26 cities. There were 14 new entries, with Bangkok, Singapore, and Hong Kong bragging of two bars each in the top 50.
BKK Social Club was also awarded the Best New Opening award.
Silom’s Vesper made the top 100 at No. 79, and Mandarin Oriential’s Bamboo Bar found itself ranked 95th.
In Singapore, Jigger & Pony slipped three spots to No. 12 followed by Manhattan, which dropped to No. 33. Hong Kong’s Coa rose 10 places to No.17, with new entry Argo at No.28.
In the top spot was Barcelona’s Paradiso, which ranked third last year. It was the first time the No. 1 spot was won by a bar outside New York or London.
The speakeasy is hidden behind a fridge door at the back of a pastrami shop in the El Born district, and inside is complete with glass light fittings and Gaudi-inspired curved-wood ceiling. Its signatures include the Supercool Martini, where they use “supercooled” gin to build an iceberg in the glass.
London’s Tayer + Elementary maintains its runner-up spot and Barcelona’s Sips climbed up 34 places to No.3.
