Recently ranked no. 31 of Asia’s 50 Best Bar, a rum-oriented tiki bar in old town that’s become a favorite Bangkok watering hole has a new drink menu that leans heavily into tropical fruits, vegetables, herbs and spices.

Annual menu refreshes have become a necessity at the top bars, and Tropic City’s Volume 3 offers a dozen new concoctions. Which are they proudest of? We put the question to co-founders Philip Stefanescu and Sebastian De La Cruz. Here are their proudest creations.

Welcome To The Jungle

Served in an whole pineapple, this rum-spirited drink combines Plantation Original Dark Rum with Havana Club 3 Year Rum before it mixes with apricot, Pimento Dram, pine apple, orange, lime and vanilla. The drink is THB380.

Love Hangover

While it’s no secret the bar is all about rum, it gives a little over to gin mixed with kombucha. Love Hangover borrows its fuchsia color from mulberries and brings together dry gin and peach brandy with fermented pineapple brew and sparkling water. It’s THB380.

Chronic Iced Tea

Double the rummie goodness with Venezuela’s Diplomatico Mantuano and its Brazilian co-star, Abelha Cachaca. Mixing it up with that are mixed are four types of fruit — coconut, passionfruit, peach and pineapple — with hints of mint, lemon and vanilla. Now imagine all that inside a chilled, pineapple-shaped glass for THB380.

Mumsfilibaba

Named after a Swedish DJ duo that includes De La Cruz, this tall tiki mug blends cinnamon-infused rum with pisco, applejack and blackberry-flavored liqueur. It also comes with a unique sensation created by salted caramel peanut orgeat, apple and lime. This cocktail is THB420.

Apart from its new menu list, the bar will introduce monthly Rum Tastings starting Jan. 31. Barflies will get to try five exclusive rums in one hour. It costs THB2,000 per person and requires booking in advance.

Tropic City is located on Soi Charoen Krung 28, 1 kilometer from MRT Hua Lamphong. It opened in 2017 inside a renovated shophouse.
