A coveted list of the world’s watering holes was back yesterday to recognize even more Singapore bars.
The 13th edition of The World’s 50 Best Bars yesterday recognized six bars in Singapore, two more than last year, making the city the most represented in Asia.
Highest among them, Singapore’s Jigger & Pony secured ninth place for a second year, while strong contenders Manhattan and Atlas dropped to 15th and 16th, respectively. The city’s two new entries were No Sleep Club (No. 26) and MO Bar (No. 36), and a re-entry from Tippling Club (No. 43).
London’s Connaught Bar topped the list for the second consecutive year, followed by London’s Tayer + Elementary and Barcelona’s Paradiso.
The list featured entries from 17 countries, with 18 new entries combined from Australia, India, Mexico, Russia, Argentina, Sweden, Spain, China and the UAE.
Other Asian bars that qualified include Hong Kong’s Coa (No. 7), Tokyo’s The SG Club (No. 18), Shanghai’s Sober Company (No. 39), and New Delhi bar Sidecar (No. 47) which reentered this year, the first time since 2010.
Local bars like Sago House (No. 63), 28 HongKong Street (No. 71) and Barbary Coast (No. 81) as well as Kuala Lumpur’s Bar Trigona (No. 52), Bangkok’s Tropic City (No. 62) and Social Club (No. 90) were close but did not make the top 50 list.
The rankings were determined by judges who voted for their top seven bars based on experiences from March 2020 through September. An Asia-only version is usually produced midyear.
