Pantai Padma Beach clean up and sea turtle release on for Bali’s Big Eco-Weekend

Presented By

We all know and love the Island of the Gods for its beautiful beaches, but unfortunately the harsh reality is that there is literally tons of traffic floating in Bali’s waters and getting washed up ashore each year.

It seems that as soon as we pick up all the bottles and plastic bags in sight, there’s always more garbage strewn across the shore to replace it.

However, don’t get too cynical. There are people in the community trying to make a difference and you can take part too.

This weekend at Padma Beach in Legian, one of the island’s busiest and tourist-frequented beaches, there will be a huge beach clean up and sea turtle release as a part of Bali’s Big Eco-Weekend 2016 on Saturday, July 30.

The annual event is co-sponsored by Coca-Cola Amatil Indonesia and Quiksilver Indonesia and there will be a number of other family-friendly programs encouraging community engagement and eco-friendly practices in addition to the beach clean up.

Other than the 3K beach race, yoga, and stand up paddle boarding which is Rp200k and is led by Roxy, Saturday’s all-day event is free of charge and you’re welcome to come and go throughout the day. (Register here for Roxy events).

And as we stated before, we realize that however much trash we clean up, there always seems to be more. What we admire about the Bali Beach Clean Up (BBCU) is that this weekend is not just a one-off event where trash gets picked up en masse once a year. BBCU was founded in 2007 and cleans approximately 9.7 kilometers of shoreline across five Bali beaches on a DAILY basis.

Since the program’s founding, BBCU estimates that they’ve collected more than 31 million kilograms of rubbish and safely returned more than 130,000 baby sea turtles back to the ocean. If you want to learn more about how BBCU has been working with the community to try and keep Bali beautiful and/or show them your support by lending a hand, then Padma Beach is waiting for you this Saturday!
