Woman switches religion to claim inheritance from husband she allegedly killed

An Indonesian woman who allegedly ordered a hit on her wealthy Australian businessman husband in Bali is getting called out for trying to switch her religion so she can keep her inheritance, reports say.

Under family law in Indonesia, a Muslim woman cannot benefit (aka claim inheritance in this case) if convicted of her husband’s murder, the AAP reports.

Noor Ellis, accused of having her 60-year-old husband Robert Ellis killed in October 2014 is allegedly claiming she’s Hindu, despite official documentation that she’s Muslim, according to the AAP.

The alleged black widow is facing charges of premeditated murder, which carries the maximum penalty of death in Indonesia.

But the legal team for Noor and Robert Ellis’ sons say she is mistaken if she thinks she can con her way into her inheritance via a religion change.

“We have prepared for that,” attorney Any Aryani told AAP.

“As soon as the court states Noor is guilty of killing her husband, we will take legal measures that will ensure Noor will not get even the smallest bit of Bob’s fortune.”
