Witness saw Agus dig a hole three weeks before Engeline’s suspected death, possible third suspect denies any involvement

Another day in the Engeline murder mystery investigation. Another witness account, another version of events, another story.

Based on the most recent questioning, Margriet’s and Agus’ account on what happened the day that Engeline was allegedly killed remains the same (at least from the last version, in Agus’ case).

According to Tempo, Bali police told journalists that much of the information they received from Agus based on their latest questioning “can be believed”, as indicated by the lie-detector. However, police were unwilling to elaborate any further, stating that they still need to make sure that those statements line up with physical evidence and forensic test results.

Another witness account was also reported in Kompas today, a former residence who rented a room at the house where Engeline’s dead body was found. The witness, Rahmat Handono, reportedly noticed that Agus had been digging a hole in the backyard, as early as three weeks prior to Engeline’s suspected date of murder.

To add further confusion to the already complicated narrative, AA, who the police previously suspected may have some involvement with Engeline’s murder, has finally spoken out to Tribun Bali with his version of events (though not directly related to the murder).

AA supposedly first met Margriet when he delivered a refrigerator to her Sanur property. During their encounter, Margriet asked him if he knew of anyone that would be interested in working for her to care for her dogs and chicken.

AA reportedly met Agus at a laundry place in Denpasar and soon learned that Agus was unemployed, having recently been fired from his previous job in Benoa. AA introduced Agus to Margriet, and Agus began working for Margriet on April 23 April 2015. A week later, Margriet apparently rang AA complaining about Agus, because she found some “dirty substances” in the toilet that shouldn’t have been there. AA went to Margriet’s residence and confronted Agus, who denied that he had anything to do with it. Margriet then confronted Engeline, who reportedly also denied any involvement. AA told Tribun Bali he saw Margriet drag Engeline to a room, but said he had no idea what went on in that room.

On 18 May AA was reportedly contacted by Agus to help him answer questions from journalists regarding Engeline’s disappearance. AA told Agus to be honest and tell them what he knew at the time.

AA denied any involvement in Engeline’s murder, saying that he was working the day of her suspected murder (16 May). This is what he reportedly told the police, though the lie-detector test reportedly indicated that some of his statements were likely to be lies (the police have not specified what those “lies” could be).

Agus’ mother and older brother were flown in to Bali from Sumba, East Nusa Tenggara today, reportedly to “boost Agus’ morale” so that he can give truthful answers to the investigators, Tribun Bali reported.

We guess that in a quest to find the truth, anything is worth trying.
