A UK citizen in his late 60s went missing in the waters of the Blue Lagoon Beach in Karangasem in what has been described by the authorities as a snorkeling accident.

The victim has been identified as 68-year-old GS. He went snorkeling with his wife yesterday afternoon at the beach on Nusa Ceningan Island.

GS’ wife alerted authorities to the incident at around 5:30pm after she noticed that her husband did not return to the beach.

Karangasem Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) Chief I Gusti Ngurah Eka Widnyana said today that a team began searching for the victim at 08:25pm yesterday.

“We will inform you on further developments,” he said.

While we’re hoping for the victim to be found safe and sound, this incident represents another cautionary tale for being vigilant while enjoying Bali’s beaches, as conditions may change at any time.

Last June, an Italian woman survived being pummeled by a strong wave while enjoying a swim at Klungkung Beach.
