An Airbus A-330 series went up in flames at Bali’s Angkasa Pura I Ngurah Rai International Airport on Tuesday as part of a emergency preparedness simulation.
The exercise simulated a flight from Australia to Denpasar experiencing technical difficulties when landing. The flight, imagined to be carrying 200 passengers crashed and skidded on the runway in the scenario, with 25 casualties and 45 getting injured.
“The goal is to make sure that the procedures that we have created could be implemented in the field. Secondly, that the entire personnel of Angkasa Pura I understands their duties and functions,” Angkasa Pura I Director Danang S Baskoro told media, as quoted by Tribun Bali.
He added that they are not just prepared for disastrous landings at the airport, but other scenarios like if the airport building caught fire, and also bomb threats.
The simulation reportedly involved over 500 personnel from the Airport Emergency and Airport Security committees, as well as police, Basarnas (Search and Rescue), firefighters, and hospitals around Denpasar.
