Wakatobi, Sulawesi about to be more accessible with new Garuda flight

Clear aqua water, white sand, and world-class diving appeal to you? If so, then you’ll be pleased to know that a new flight is making Wakatobi in Southeast Sulawesi a more accessible trip from Bali. (If it doesn’t appeal to you, you probably need to live and travel in a different climate).

Garuda Airlines has announced that will open a direct flight from Denpasar to Wakatobi in August 2015.

“The maiden flight of Garuda Indonesia from Denpasar to Wakatobi will be inaugurated by the Minster of Tourism,” says Wakatobi’s regent, Hugua, as quoted by Republika

According to him, the opening of the new route is an answer to the demand placed by tourists from China and Japan that often vacation in Bali. The tourists from these countries apparently often want to go to Wakatobi but complain about the difficulty to get there.

While we hope the beautiful reef isn’t overrun with tourists as Wakatobi makes it even more on the map for travelers stopping through Bali, you can bet we plan on taking advanatage of this new route.
